my barefooting discovery

My Injuries from Shoes
During my career as a college decathlete I suffered from nonstop injuries: achilles strains, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, pulled hamstrings and lower back problems, to name a few. When one injury would heal I would be inflicted by another. However, in the summers when I would take a few months off, I would be totally healthy, stronger and faster. I couldn't figure out why I was so much stronger at a time that I was taking a break from training. During these summers I found that I enjoyed TAKING MY SHOES OFF. Naturally, I spent most of the summers barefoot. The injuries were gone, my feet were strong, my body was in balance, and I was fast! At the end of summer, ironically, the injuries would crop back up. I couldn't get it, I would be healthy the whole summer but as soon as I would begin training I'd get injured. Then it hit me, I was getting injured right when I began wearing my running shoes again. Does this sound like anything you've heard before?

The Healing Power of Barefoot
Now that I've discovered my solution to nearly all of my health problems, I go barefoot as often as possible. I run, walk, and hang out barefoot. Since barefooting isn't possible in all situations such as at work, I have experimented with many different types of barefoot-like or minimalist footwear. This is what I'd like to share with you. Today's conventional shoes contain high-tech features that are actually more harmful to your health. However, there are a handful of companies that have come up with their own solutions for an alternative to barefooting. Just in the last couple of years there has been a "barefoot movement" in the shoe marketplace. Barefoot footwear is growing larger and will be here to stay because you can't argue natural science.
